While most students were prepping for semester exams, the FHC dance team had its focus on something else. In its most recent competition, FHC outplaced over 20 other teams and had a 5th place finish in the jazz category and a 4th place in POM category during the Michigan Regional this past weekend. The competition was put on by the Dance Union and was hosted by Forest Hills Eastern.
The team put in a lot of work to prepare for the competition. So, what played a big role in the team’s preparation for the competition?
“We had more practices, including morning practices before school,” says senior Fiona Overdevest.
Junior Anna Morris added,“We also watched tons of film to improve our accuracy.”
Although the team had a great competition, the dancers still have things to work on before the next meet, but it doesn’t always mean that practicing more is the one and only way. Team bonding will allow the team to stay connected during the routine, leading to better performance.
“We can continue watching more film and analyzing our performance,” says Overdevest, “but we can also spend more time together as a team to build overall strength.”
Morris agrees with Overdevest again, as she says, “ I think our jazz routine needs to improve before the next competition, and building a strong team bond and atmosphere will really help us put in the work and be prepared for the next competition.”
The dance team’s next competition is at Dakota High School on January 11th, where the team hopes to improve on its routines and take home a win for FHC.
