Q and A with varsity dancer, junior Myla Morey

Q and A with varsity dancer, junior Myla Morey

Name: Myla Morey

Grade: Junior

Sport: Dance

How long have you been doing dance?

“I started dance when I was two, and I started doing competitive dance when I was in first grade, and then I obviously joined the dance team in ninth grade, so I’ve basically been doing it my whole life.”

What other sports do you do at FHC?

“I don’t do any other sports because dance team is time-consuming, and I also do studio outside of school, so that’s the only sport I’ve ever played.”

What is your best memory from your time doing dance?

“Probably freshman year when we went to Orlando for nationals. There was a lot of team bonding, and we got to experience a really big dance competition, and I’m looking forward to doing that again next month.”

What are the strengths of this year’s team?

“So this year’s team is definitely—it’s weird being an upperclassman because there’s a lot more underclassmen than there was when I was a freshman, so it’s a very young team. I feel like that helps us build team bonding a lot because the upperclassmen get to nurture all of the underclassmen. It’s just a different team dynamic, and I like it.”

What are/were your individual goals this season?

“For nationals and at all competitions, I really push to hit all my tricks and turns and make sure that all the moves I do are the best they can be on the stage, so I get the full points for that. ”

Who is your favorite professional athlete?

“Oh, that’s really hard. I don’t have one favorite because there are so many good dancers, but any of the big college teams, all those girls such as the University of Minnesota, Ohio State, they all have really good dancers. I’d say all of them are probably my favorite.”

What music do you listen to to get fired up for games?

“I don’t know, it depends. I like songs that I can sing in the car to with my friends because we can kinda scream and get ourselves hyped up. It just depends.”

Do you have any superstitions associated with dance?

“Not really, but I do like to make sure that I have all my stuff laid out the night before. I like to wake up in the morning and have everything already ready. Besides that, I kinda just go for it.”
