On Wednesday, Dec 17, 2025, the FHC varsity hockey team took on East Grand Rapids in a highly anticipated matchup. These two teams have been at the top of the West Michigan rankings the entire season and now they were set to face off at Patterson Ice Center. With EGR being ranked inside the top 20 in the state and the Rangers just on the outside, there was no doubt that the boys wanted to prove themselves. Over the past few games, FHC has been on a roll, out scoring their last four opponents 16-4. With Christmas break approaching and the season’s halfway point on the horizon, it is a great time to gain all the momentum that they can.
The boys began the game the way they finished the last one. Striking first in the opening period, Benny Mielock put the boys on the board making the game 1-0. Throughout the end of the first and the entire second period, the game slowed down and going into the third period the game was still 1-0 FHC.
Defenseman Hayden Tanner talked about the quick start.
“We came out really fast and set the tone and we were able to keep that momentum throughout all three periods.”
Hayden was correct because the momentum never switched to EGR as the boys kept their feet on the gas scoring two goals in the third period to be able to capture the victory 3-0. Tanner also stated that they played well on the defensive end and everyone did their job as a team which helped FHC be successful.
“We just kept trying to keep our pace fast and playing as a unit on defense. Everyone played their role and contributed to the success.”
Throughout the year, the team has been experimenting with different lineups, changing its first line, and creating opportunities to spread out the talent of the roster over each line. Given that the team has now rattled off four straight victories and two wins over top ranked teams like Clarkston and now East Grand Rapids, it looks like the players have found the right combination to keep the winning streak going.
The team’s next game is on Friday, December 19, in Lansing as the Rangers take on the Capital City Capitals before heading to East Lansing on Saturday, December 20 to take on Howell prior to a break.
The boys are heading in the right direction and looking to keep their success rolling.
