Andrew Payne is a phenomenal bowler and he has shown that throughout his whole career. He helped this program make it to regionals this year and he has shown that he’s a top bowler. Andrew has always been a great leader but in bowling he really steps up and gives his all. Andrew started bowling 2 years ago and his game has improved a ton since last year making his a key player for this year. A teammate of Andrew’s, Brady Storz, praises Andrew’s leadership.
“He always tried to keep the mood up,” Brady said. “and even if he wasn’t doing good he still was motivated for the team.”
The FHC bowling program received a new coach, and coach Cann has been playing for many years. Having a good coach is critical to having a great season. Coaches keep the mental high and advise is very important.
“The change from the start of the season to the end was very noticeable,” Andrew said. “and I believe the coaching staff is the reason for that.”
Andrew has been bowling for a little over two years now. Having consistent shooting scores in high school is very important especially when at this age it is more of a team sport.
“Andrew showed great scores this year.” Brady said. “He had the highest game scoring in the conference.”
Having a good mental and physical game is any sport is very important. One must keep their composure but also their physical health. Especially in FHC having both of those aspects healthy is very important.
“It’s 100% more of a mentally challenging game,” Andrew said. “While there are a lot of technical things that come with bowling, most of my success has come from trying to focus and trust myself without getting frustrated.”
In high school sports it is very important to have fun. One should take high school sports seriously, but not to a point where fun isn’t allowed. When a team has fun together memories form and relationships strengthen.
“During the pre-season conference, a lot of us didn’t have high expectations going into it.” Andrew said. “We didn’t have time to work as a team together. But there was one game where one of us struck out in the 10th frame and I remember the team getting really excited. We were able to do good in the games after that as well. I believe this was one of the first moments that proved that we could be a great team together later as the season went on.”
Having great skill in bowling is very important, but with that takes much practice at things you might not be great at. Bowling lanes are forever changing and new bowling balls are being made every week, So when these challenges come up bowlers must adapt and practice, and a bowler will never have anything they can’t work on.
“Andrew does really good with just about everything,” Brady said. “but 10 pin spares are hard so if he worked on throwing faster or just getting a new ball he would be even more lethal.”
Overall, Andrew Payne was an amazing teammate and was a key player to this year’s bowling program, he gave his best and contributed a ton to help improve his own game, but also his teammates game.
“Andrew Payne was one of the most important factors for the success of the team,” Brady Storz said. “and I hope he’ll go farther with it.”
