Bowling is kicking off, and the teams look like they can dominate this season. Both girls’ and boys’ teams are coming off a delightful season; the girls’ team went undefeated throughout the season and finished as Conference champions, tied with Grand Rapids Christian. The boys didn’t have quite the same luck, finishing with only a few losses, and managed to work their way up to a fourth-place finish in the conference.
Expectations are high, and many bowlers have some strong words about what is soon to be in the upcoming season. Varsity senior Cambrie Smith is hopeful going into her third year on the team.
“Our expectations as a team are to hopefully win our conference and have fun along the way,” Smith said.
Returning coach Matthew Cann has very high expectations for his team following their results last season. As a result of this, he plans to make changes to the way the team is set up, especially regarding their schedule.
“This season, we are focusing more on technique, and we are traveling more and participating in more tournaments throughout the season,” Smith said.
The higher expectations from coach Cann could have add a sense of pressure to his teams, even to those who are returning to the team. Varsity junior Jasker Bentley is going into his second year with the boys’ bowling team.
“I think that adjusting to new expectations from our coach will be a little hard for most of us,” Bentley said.
Even though the conditions are tense, bowlers are still very passionate and dedicated to getting better and being able to stick to their goals for the season.
“Personally, I could work on accuracy in my shot, and as a team we can work on improving individual and baker scores,” explained Smith.
Not only do individual players have their goals set, but the team as a whole has many goals to achieve this season. Many improvements have been made and are going to be shown this season.
“I think our whole team needs to work on sportsmanship, teamwork with each other, and spares,” Bentley said.
The teams are very high with expectations this year due to the same people coming back for the second year in a row. Both teams really want to win and do great things, to put FHC on the bowling map.
“I would expect us to go to the States and win every single game,” Bentley said.
So good luck to the boys and girls bowling team in this winter season, hopefully this year will bring as much success as last.
