Providence lacrosse has received many verbal commitments from recruits this year, including Junior Luka Nuo. It is not easy going D1 in any sport, but a recent boom in the sport of lacrosse has made it even more difficult. Junior, Luka Nuo, a defender here at Forest Hills Central, has shown that with hard work and dedication, it can be achieved. Nuo is committed to Providence, which is looking to become a top-ranked team in college lacrosse.
The FHC lacrosse coaching staff has helped the team on and off the field. In 2023, the FHC lacrosse team won its second straight state championship title, and the coaches played a big role in the success of their team. This trend continues today. Nuo comments on how his coaches helped him get to where he is now. “
The coaches from FHC have really been beneficial to my success,” Nuo states. “They helped me through the recruitment process and helped me send out emails to college coaches.”
The coaching staff at Providence is driven to develop players into the best they can be, and it attracts the attention of recruits like Nuo as soon as possible. Providence is known for its tough defense and physical play style, perfect for a defender. Providence also has many facilities for the betterment of its players. Nuo comments on what Providence has to offer compared to other schools.
“The amazing coaching staff and facilities stood out to me,” Nuo said. “This made me commit as soon as I could.”
Nuo plays club lacrosse for Juiced Cherries, a top team in the state for his age. The Cherries play many tournaments in big cities like Philadelphia each year, with the best of the best. College coaches and scouts attend these tournaments, and Cherries played a key role in Nuo’s ability to achieve an offer. On the other hand, school lacrosse develops players to play at the highest level they can and achieve their goals.
“Playing with the club helped me get out and play in front of more coaches,” Nuo said. “School helped me play at a high level with older kids and become a strong player.”
Nuo comments on how his mom played a major role in his journey to get to where he is today. Luka’s mom pushes him to be his best and play hard every time he steps on the field.
“My mom has been the most beneficial in my career,” Nuo states. “She encourages me to be the best I can be.”
Playing college sports is on another level when it comes to competition. Schools like Duke, Harvard, Cornell, and Syracuse all lead the way in the college lacrosse rankings. Providence is sitting at a .500 record and looking to improve by bringing in recruits like Luka. Nuo shows his passion for the sport and how he wants to bring home hardware for Providence.
“I am looking forward to being able to compete against other high-level schools like Harvard and Duke,” Nuo states. “All in hopes to win a national championship.
Not many lacrosse players make it to the next level, and it motivates Nuo that he is one of the few who do succeed.
“This decision will feed me with motivation,” Nuo said. “It will help me become the best I can be and try and prepare myself for the next level.”
Choosing the right school to commit to as an athlete can be hard, especially to a school across the country can be hard, but Nuo believes he made the correct decision that will positively affect his future.
“This decision was hard to make,” Nuo states. “It is the first step of growing up and living by myself in a new state.”
One of the biggest attributes college coaches and scouts look for in a player is leadership. Nuo demonstrates this for his club team (Juiced Cherries) and the school team here at FHC. Forest Hills Central won the state championship in back-to-back years in 2022 and 2023, and Nuo hopes to lead this current team to a state championship. Luka comments on how he portrays this leadership trait.
“I push others on my team to be better,” Nuo states.” I am hoping to keep doing this for the next two years and lead our team to a state championship.”
