Q & A with freshman football player, freshman Will Costello

Q+%26+A+with+freshman+football+player%2C+freshman+Will+Costello

Name: Will Costello

Sport: Freshman football

Grade: freshman

How long have you been playing football?

“I started playing flag football in 3rd grade and switched to tackle in 6th grade. I have had fun every year, but I like tackle more.”

What other sports do you play at FHC?

“In middle school, I played three sports: football, basketball, and baseball. I hope to continue all of them now that I am in high school. I would probably say football is my favorite sport out of the 3.”

What is your best memory from your time playing football?

“One of my favorite memories of football is actually from last Thursday night when we beat EGR.  It was our first win of the season, and we all contributed to the win! That feeling you get when your team wins is one of the best feelings ever.  It’s like everything you have worked for over the last few weeks has finally come together for a big win.”

What are the strengths of this year’s team?

“This season has had some ups and downs.  I think we work well as a team and continue to push each other during practices.  It has started to pay off in the most recent games.”

What are your individual goals for the season?

“A goal I have set for myself this season is to help get the team in a place to have the best chance for success every time we step out on the field. Another one is to calm down because sometimes I will speed up my throwing motion and miss an easy pass or a throw that could have been a pivotal point in the game.”

Who is your favorite professional athlete?

“My favorite professional athlete is Kobe Bryant. I like him because he had this aura about him, and he was known to outwork his opponent no matter how tough they were.  I try to model my work ethic after him.”

Who is the biggest influence in your athletic career and why?

“My biggest influence is my dad. He never misses a game of mine, and he pushes me to be my best even when I don’t think I have it in me. He is always there when I want to work on a skill, like my swing, my shot, or my throw.”

Do you have any superstitions associated with your games?

“I really don’t have any superstitions about my game like most people.  There is something special about the number I wear on my jersey.  I picked 12 because it was the number that my older sisters (Katie and Emma) wore for volleyball when they played for FHC.”
