In the Giants’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct 26, 2025, their 4th round pick in the 2025 draft, Cam Skattebo, went down with a leg injury. Is this the end of this young running back’s career, or have we seen enough to know that he will grow to become an elite running back?
After the game, it was revealed that Skattebo suffered an open tibia fracture and ruptured deltoid ligament in addition to a right ankle dislocation. He had emergency surgery Sunday night in Philadelphia to address the injuries.
Skattebo is out for the season, but so far, he has shown some great potential. His best game was on October 9th against the Eagles, where he had 98 yards in 19 carries with 3 touchdowns. This season, Skattebo has racked up 617 yards of total yards this season, with 410 rushing yards, which is more than other, non-rookie running backs like David Montgomery and Alvin Kamara.
Compared to other rookies, Skattebo is in 4th place in rushing yards, but not far behind, only around 70 yards behind Ashton Jeanty, who is in first place. However, the true place where Skattebo has excelled from his draft class is in receiving yards. Skattebo has a total of 207 receiving yards this season, which puts him far in first over the other rookie running backs. The closest to him is RJ Harvey, who has 166 yards, and that is still more than 50 yards less than him.
These stats are even more impressive once you take in the fact that the Giants are not a good team that could carry him to these stats. The Giants have a 2-7 record and are unlikely to have a great season, and will most likely not make the playoffs now that Skattebo is out.
The Giants aren’t a good team, but we can see what Skattebo has brought to the team by seeing how the team has performed differently so far compared to last season. The Giants last season had a 17.6% win percentage, and this year so far, they have had a 22.2% win percentage. It is not much, but it still shows that new additions, such as Cam Skattebo, have made this team at least a little bit better. However, we will have to see how his time off the field affects the Giants. If the team starts doing even worse, then we can conclude that Skattebo has become an integral part of this team, or we may just find out that he was not affecting, or even holding back this team; we will have to find out.
Overall, Cam Skattebo has shown a great start to his career, but now that he is out, we can see how he really affected the team on the field based on how the Giants play in the next couple of weeks. In my opinion, Skattebo will get back from injury and become a mid-tier running back. Still, I also think that it is possible that he may develop more while injured and come back showing his potential in the 2026-2027 season.
