Welcome back to From the Court to Content! This is the second installment in this week’s trio of postings, and for this column, we’ll be covering NFL teams on social media! Let’s dive right in!
Very often do I see team content when I scroll through my FYP on TikTok. Now, this may be because of the algorithm and because I follow the NFL’s actual account on the app, but regardless, it definitely is a very common occurrence for me to see team accounts posting daily TikToks.
If I had to choose my top 3 accounts, it would be in this order:
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Detroit Lions
The Chargers are definitely my favorite team to see pop up, and they are the most common for me. Between interviewing the players, pulling pranks, or even trolling other teams, the Chargers’ social media managers deserve their flowers. They know just the right way to connect to their audience and can even connect really well with other users who don’t follow professional football.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ account is very similar to the Chargers. They again troll other teams, conduct interviews, and pull pranks, but they have their own spin on it. While it feels like content can be repetitive across different teams, which oftentimes is just because of a popular trend, the Eagles’ social media team also deserves their recognition. They differentiate themselves and provide enjoyable content, which means a lot coming from a non-Eagles fan.
How can I leave off the Detroit Lions? Not only are they my favorite NFL team, but they are an underrated account. Again, not that much of their content is different from that of the Chargers, Eagles, or 29 other NFL accounts, but they target their audience very well. The trolling TikToks seem to never end, and the behind-the-scenes look they offer of the players is very enjoyable.
While all pages seemingly post some of the same content, one thing stays the same: the NFL has adopted a genius marketing strategy.
With many TikTok users being Gen Z or younger, the NFL has a wide-open platform that allows it to appeal to younger fans. TikTok has certainly grown the following of the NFL and could be one of the reasons it is the most popularly followed professional sports league.
The social media pages of each NFL team offer lighthearted content that is hilarious, entertaining, and certainly worth taking a look at. Regardless of how big a football fan you are, these TikToks are for everyone.
The social media craze has left the NFL with a glorious marketing strategy that every team is starting to reap benefits from. I can’t wait to see the upcoming content that these marketing geniuses come up with next.
