This Monday night, the Chiefs are traveling down to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. Though in past years, this game would probably be a blowout, the Jaguars have improved tremendously, and the Chiefs, so far this season, have not looked great by any means.
The Jaguars are sitting at 3-1 with wins over the Panthers, Texans, and 49ers. Though the schedule might seem light, every win in the NFL is a good win, and being 3-1 to start the season, regardless of team or schedule, is impressive. Trevor Lawrence has looked pretty good so far and has surprised some people. Travis Etienne has had a great start to the season as well, carrying the load on the running game for the Jags. The number 2 pick in the draft has also had an impact, more on offense than defense, but has still helped Jacksonville on its early hot streak.
The Chiefs, on the other hand, have had a pretty rough start to their season. Coming off a Super Bowl appearance, hopes were pretty high to start the season. Losing to the Chargers and Eagles right out of the gate, Kansas City started 0-2, but they won their last 2 games, one against the Giants and another against the Ravens, giving them a record of 2-2. Fortunately for the Chiefs, they are still second in their conference, a game behind the Chargers. It’s still early in the season, and I think the Chiefs will turn it around in no time.
In the first quarter, I predict the game will start slowly with both teams getting stopped on their first two drives. At the end of the first quarter, Trevor Lawrence will lead the Jags down the field, and Travis Etienne will cap off a solid drive with a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Cam Little will hit the extra point, making the score 7-0, Jaguars.
The Chiefs will come out of the gates firing on all cylinders to start the second quarter. Patrick Mahomes will complete two chunk play passes, one to Hollywood Brown and one to Travis Kelce, to get them in the red zone. Mahomes will then use his legs to get the Chiefs their first score of the game on a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Harrison Butker will sink the extra point to tie the game 7-7. Both offenses will then stall, and the first half will end in a tie.
In the 3rd quarter, both teams will start with points as they trade field goals, making the score 10-10. The Chiefs will then hit another field goal and take the lead, 13-10. To end the quarter, the Chiefs will add another score, this time a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce, making the score 20-10.
In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs will score one last time on a run from Isiah Pachecco to put the game out of hand, 27-10. The Jaguars will add one more field goal, but it won’t be enough, and the Chiefs will secure the win, 27-13.
