Q+and+A+with+volleyball+player%2C+freshman+Caroline+Kendall

Name: Caroline Kendall

Sport: Freshman volleyball

Grade: Freshman

How long have you been playing?

“I have been playing volleyball since I was in sixth grade, so this is my fourth year playing. I started playing on a school team, but now I have played for clubs such as MVA and Saints Volleyball Club.”

What other sports do you play at FHC?

“I do not play any other sports at FHC besides volleyball, but I would consider playing tennis in the spring.”

What is your best memory from your time playing?

“My favorite memory from playing volleyball was when our freshman volleyball team won first place at our first tournament this season. We played six games that day, leading 5-1 as tournament champions. We played very well, even winning a game 21-0.”

What are the strengths of this year’s team?

“This year, our team has done very well at making comebacks during the game. If we are losing by a few points, we are able to keep our attitudes up and play our best. This is a very important strength for a volleyball team to have since the attitude you have towards the game will reflect on the scoreboard.”

What are your individual goals for this season?

“This season, my main goal is to improve my skills as a Defensive Specialist (DS). As a DS, my job is to defend the back of our court from deep shots. As a DS, it is very important that you are able to read where the ball is going, so you can get to it as fast as possible. So this season, my goal is to improve on predicting where the ball is going to go and passing it up so my team can return it on offense.”

Who is the biggest influence in your athletic career and why?

“My teammates have had the biggest influence on my athletic career for many reasons. They always have my back, on the court and off. Either by cheering me on when I’m up to serve, or giving out high-fives when I get a good save or dig, my teammates are always there for me. They also push me to be the best player that I can be, and even if I miss a dig or serve they always tell me I’ve got the next one.”

What music do you listen to to get fired up for games?

“I personally do not listen to pump-up songs before games, but I always try to fire up my team before we hit the court. I always try to cheer them on as loud as I can, no matter how early in the morning it is or how many points we have. In my opinion, we always play better when we have good attitudes.”

What is your favorite class this year and why?

“This year, I am really excited about taking a Draw/Paint class. So far, I have loved it. I really like making art, whether it’s painting, drawing, or anything else that needs some creativity. I love that art is a class where I can bring in any idea, and have some fun experimenting with it.”
