As many of the JV swimmers from the previous season move into the varsity season, new swimmers have come in to fill in for those who left. The previous season started strong, and even as there was some craziness involving the coaching, the team continued to perform in front of people and win.

With a new season coming on, it followed some uncertainty as the girls faced adversity in that they weren’t totally sure that there would actually be another season of girls JV water polo. Especially after the coaching problems that occurred last year. But now the swimmers can rest easy in that it is confirmed that there will, in fact, be another season.

The season sparks interest in that it is Celine Johnson’s first season as the JV water polo coach as the previous JV coach, Sara Fredricks, moves up to varsity filling Dennis Neat’s place.

No one is entirely sure how they will perform this year, but with some fresh faces on the team, there is a reason to be positive. With the new coach, there will surely be some growing pains as coach Johnson gets used to her new team, and the new swimmers get used to their new coach. But as the team grows closer to each other, and their new coach, the team’s performance will improve overall for a greater purpose. Great chemistry and genuine trust in each other are what bring teams to greatness, even on teams in which almost everyone on the team is new.

The girls began their season on Friday, March 17, at East Kentwood high school and will continue until May 4. The team takes on its next opponents at home on Tuesday, March 21, against the number one team in the state, Hudsonville followed by Thursday, March 23, against Jenison high school in an away matchup.
