This previous Friday, February 10, FHC’s ski team competed in its fourth race of the season as well as its fifth race this past Saturday, February 11. After a cancelation of a race earlier in the week, the ski team was able to savor the races this winter season allowed of them.

Starting off with Friday’s varsity-only race, the team competed in a race against eight other teams. Having rained days prior to this race, the snow was unsuitable for racing and the overall conditions were not in favor of the team. Despite having to compete in poor conditions, the team performed to the best of its abilities.

Starting off with the men’s giant slalom race, senior captain, Christian Bethea placed sixth with a combined time of 54.62 seconds between his two runs. Behind Christian, was another senior caption Thomas Carano with a combined time of 55.70 seconds between both of his runs. For the men’s slalom race, the leading time was senior captain Thomas Carano with a combined time of 1 minute and 14.82 seconds. Following Thomas, was Junior Nico Notamicola with a combined time of 1 minute and 17.18 seconds.

Next up with the girl’s GS race, freshman Chloe Cox tied for twelfth place with a combined time of 57.83 seconds between both of her runs. After Chloe comes freshman Addy Quinn with a combined time of 58.52 between her two runs. For the girl’s SL race, the top racer was Addy Quinn with a combined time of 1 minute and 15.69 seconds between her two runs. Following behind Addy was senior captain Lucy McLean with a combined time of 1 minute and 16.71 seconds between both of her runs.

The following day, Saturday, February 11, FHC’s ski team competed in a second race against eight other teams. Despite racing on icy hills, the ski team managed to make up for its placement in the team’s previous race with the boys placing third overall and the girls placing second overall. For the boys, the top racers were senior captain Thomas Carano placing seventh with a combined time of 1 minute and 07.07 seconds between his two runs, and behind him was junior Mickey Mehney with a combined time of 1 minute and 10.26 seconds between his two runs.

For the girl’s race, the top racers were freshman Chloe Cox with a combined time of 1 minute and 10.23 seconds between her two runs, and behind her was freshman Addy Quinn with a combined time of 1 minute and 14.41 seconds between both of her runs.

Due to poor weather conditions earlier in the week, the hills were not exactly perfect for this weekend’s races, but despite this, the team still managed to compete to the best of its ability. The FHCs ski team is scheduled to race next on Thursday, February 16.
