The girls JV basketball team starts off the new year strong with two more wins

With the new year beginning, the girls JV basketball team began to work harder than ever. The break gave the girls some time to think about what they want for the rest of their season, which is all the same thing, to grow as a team and to continue to win their games.

On Thursday, January 5, the girls faced off against Forest Hills Northern High School, one of the girls’ rivals. After a long game and a lot of hard work, the Rangers’ effort paid off, with yet another win under their belt, putting the final score at 36-16.

Tuesday, January 10, the girls played again at Byron Center, after a close game throughout, they fell behind in the second half, putting the final score at 33-22.

Another fierce competitor the girls were up against was Northview High School’s JV basketball team. A very close game, where the girls came from behind and ended with a final score of 39-34.

Coach Lauren Thorne sees her team and all the work they have been putting in this season. She is delighted with her team and sees a lot of progress throughout the team, especially after this game.

“I thought this game went great. We had a sad loss against Byron Center on Tuesday. We told the girls in the locker room that we could have won that game but we did not give them the tools to close out. So that’s what we practiced, we were down in this game and they executed all the tools in their toolbox that we needed to win this game and they closed it down and did it. I don’t think it could have gone any better”.

The new year has a lot in store for the girls, their hard work and dedication will bring them far. Make sure to make it out to the next home game, January 17 at 5:30 while the girls will face off against Grand Rapids Christian High School.
