Beginning its season strong, the girls JV basketball team played against the Allendale Falcons. Though the Falcons played hard they could not compete with the Lady Rangers. The girls won their first game of the season and started the winter right
Freshman Kenzie Manders loves the team already and is excited to see how far she and the team can go.
“My favorite part about the season so far is getting to know all of the girls and coaches and winning games, ” Kenzie said. “This team has made an impact on me by exposing me to other skills people have so I can learn from them and make myself a better player”.
After their first win of the season, the girls played on Tuesday, December 6 against the Hopkins JV team, and after a long game, in the last couple of seconds, Hopkins scored, leaving the final score at 28-30.
Though the game was an unfortunate loss, coach Lauren Thorne will not let the loss get to her or the girls. They are going to do what they do best, which is practice the game they know how to play.
“I think we had an excellent game on Friday,” Thorne stated. “We stuck to our game, our fundamentals, so next practices we will continue to work on the gaps, today we did not execute but we have a good team, good girls, and a lot of good talent so I am excited to see where it goes”.
Unfortunately, the girls game did not go as planned and they lost their third game of the season 34-43.
Starting off her season injured and doing all that she can to recover to be a strong member of the team, sophomore Anna Krampe is making sure that she is doing all that she can to better her game and be a powerful basketball player.
“Since coming off an injury this fall I have been getting back into training and putting time in outside of practice. I’m not quite where I was before my injury but am getting closer,” said Anna. “I’ve really enjoyed the girls on the team and the coaches. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know the freshman on the team.”
The girls next bunch of games are over winter break: December 13, against Forest Hills Eastern, December 21, against Walen high school, and finally December 28 against Covenant Christian.
