The man behind the logo

Have you ever looked at the FHC Sports Report website and wondered how our logo was created? In 2017, alumni Tyler Thompson used his love for design to create the logo and brought his ideas to life.

In 2010, Tyler was a sophomore here at FHC and had taken English 10, taught by Mr. Ken George. He loved the way that Mr. George taught and had major respect for him. Though Tyler had never been a writer for The Forest Edge (now TCT), his brother Logan was at the time. Logan mentioned to him that a new idea was being formed: a sports journalism class. Tyler knew that he needed to use his time wisely and come up with an excellent logo for the class.

One night, he sat down for hours pondering where to begin. He played around with colors and fonts, but he always knew what he wanted in the end. He knew he wanted to incorporate the green and white colors of FHC and found the perfect font. After a bit of brainstorming and messing around, he created the logo that we still proudly use today.

Tyler appreciates the fact that the logo continues to be on display and loves that his siblings take part in the class.

“I love that the logo is still running. It was up when Logan was a writer in 2017 and now it’s still there while my other siblings, Lucas and Gabby, are working on the staff,” he shares. “It feels like I gave back to the FHC community in a very small but positive way.”

Tyler had never created a sports themed logo, so he loved trying all of the different themes. He viewed and considered all designs from news companies and other sports themed broadcasts and played around with the elements. He wanted to make sure it was perfect and personal to FHC.

Mr. George was filled with excitement and love when Tyler created the logo.

“I have loved the entire Thompson family and am honored to have had them all in my class. Tyler was so energetic and an involved student in my class,” he shares. “It was so exciting for all of us when he offered to make the logo. I’ll always be thankful for his impact on the FHC Sports Report.”

As mentioned above, Tyler’s brother, Lucas, is currently one of two editors-in-chief of the FHC Sports Report. Lucas is beyond proud of the accomplishment that Tyler was able to create and hopes to carry on this legacy that Tyler created. “I feel as if I’m honoring him in some way,” Lucas said. “I love helping run the site with his logo leading the charge.”

Though Tyler is no longer in the advertising business, he is always proud to see one of his works of art still being utilized five years later.

All past and current journalists, as well as former teacher/advisor Mr. George and current teacher/advisor Mr. Sultini, are forever grateful for the gift he was able to provide. On behalf of the FHC Sports Report crew, thank you, Tyler Thompson.
