Practice makes perfect. The hard work and dedication that the girls on the JV softball team demonstrate have put them on track for a good number of wins during their season.
On Monday, May 9, the girls faced off against the Calvin Christain Squires. The girls put up a tough game and had some amazing hits and plays but, unfortunately for FHC, it fell short by a final score of 15-5.
One of the Rangers, Gabby Thompson, single-handedly got the girls an additional run by hitting her first home run of the season after solid hits in the box beforehand. Head coach Lisa Udell is beyond proud of all her team did during this game, keeping its head up and pushing through the difficult challenge that was facing them ahead.
‘The hardest part about being on the team is having so many new girls and having to assist them myself, but they’re amazing people and just new to the sport,” Gabby said with optimism.
The girls have an 0-11 record overall, but they are improving and continuing to keep their heads up. Specifically, junior Sydney Ashcroft is proud of her team and all they continue to do.
“We have yet to win a game this season, but I think we can with a little determination and some more practice,” Sydney said. “So far this season, I think I’ve made lots of progress, and I plan to keep working hard for the rest of the season.”
The girls’ next games will be played this Thursday, May 12, on FHC’s home field. They will take on the Cedar Springs Red Hawks in another difficult matchup beginning at 4:15 p.m.
“When girls are encouraging each other, everyone feels better about themselves,” coach Udell said. “I love getting to know girls and pushing them to be better people and softball players throughout the season.”
