Matthew Seurynck and Matthew Curtis’s pitching leads freshman baseball to doubleheader victories over East Grand Rapids

On Tuesday, the freshman baseball team faced off against East Grand Rapids. In their last matchup, the boys went 1-1 in some tough battles. However, this time around, the boys showed vast improvement and demolished them 13-3 and 10-5. All around, the Rangers played at a high level and fielded a superior team.

In the first game, the boys pitched well and hit fantastically. Jack Wurz went two-for-two and had a bunch of potent hits. The Pioneers couldn’t do much on FHC’s pitchers Mathew Seurynck and Mathew Curtis. Behind the stalwart play of both pitchers, the team won 13-3. In the second game, FHC continued to take advantage of its shock of momentum. Once again, they efficiently hit and pitched the ball. Although the Pioneers put up a good fight, the Rangers still walked away victorious. Drew Fortino sealed the game with two catches in left field, finishing off the Pioneers 10-5.

“I think we pitched well and hit well all around,” Drew Fortino said.

FHC plays Grand Rapids Christian on Thursday; the boys boast a 4-2 record against them this season and look forward to building on that record.
