On Thursday, the freshman baseball team faced off against Grand Rapids Christian in a tough battle. In their first matchup, the boys tied the Eagles 1-1. However, in the second contest, things didn’t go according to plan. In the end, FHC lost 2-1.
Overall, the boys struggled all over the field in the first game. They couldn’t get things going on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, and they struggled to hit the ball on the Eagles’ pitchers. In the second game, the struggles continued as they lost 2-1. However, on a positive note, Mathew Seurynck and Alex Brown both pitched at a high level, helping FHC limit the Eagles’ offensive firepower.
“We weren’t mentally there,” Drew Fortino said. “It wasn’t a good hitting day for us.”
With a rough outing on Thursday behind them, the boys will battle against East Grand Rapids, a team they’re 1-1 against, next week Tuesday and look to start a late-season winning streak to bolster their confidence for next year.
