Girls JV tennis trumps West Ottawa in a 7-3 victory
More stories from Levi McKenzie
This past Friday, the girls JV tennis team hosted a match against the West Ottawa Panthers and came out on top. Due to its size, West Ottawa’s solid, sound tennis talent is a given. That being said, it was no surprise to the girls coming into the match that West Ottawa would give them a run for their money.
Some big wins came from juniors Coco Corey and Allie Mairn with a clutch 8-5 victory. To add a cherry on top, juniors Lani Quach and Liza McCarthy held off a late push from West Ottawa and took home an 8-6 victory.
“I felt very good about how we played,” Coco Corey said. “I am happy with how everyone on the team is clicking right now.”
“I think we are all very good friends outside of just tennis,” freshman Lydia Gurley said. “That completely translates to the matches, and having a close connection with every girl makes it easy to play together and makes it very hard for other teams to do what we can.”
On Tuesday, May 4, the girls are back at home to play a rival match at 4:15 PM against the Northview Wildcats. This will be a valid mid-season test and will kick off the final stretch of the season.
