JV baseball splits doubleheader with Caledonia and falls short for the first time this season

After starting the season 7-0, JV baseball finally lost its first game. In a double-header versus Caledonia, FHC dropped the first game by a score of 5-2 to drop its overall record to 7-1. However, the Rangers would bounce back and win the second game by mercy rule, 13-1.

Freshman JT Hartman pitched one of the best games of the season in game one until he exited the game at 2-2. The Rangers then went on to give up three runs and were defeated due to some sloppy mistakes. In the second game, sophomore Chase Robinson was awarded as the winning pitcher, earning him his first win of the season. Throughout his four innings on the mound, Robinson didn’t let up a hit, struck out five batters, and didn’t throw any walks.

Offensively, JT Hartman was just as good as he was on the mound. Hartman went 2-4 on the day, finishing with a triple, double, and four RBIs.

The Rangers are now 8-1 on the year, and head coach Steve Courcy was extremely optimistic about his team’s rebound in game two.

“The boys bounced back nicely in game two,” coach Courcy said. “There were a lot of contributors, and the game was moire representative of our play style.”

FHC has a hectic upcoming week, as they face Grand Rapids Christain Monday, April 26. Then, they play the Eagles one more time on Wednesday. Once they finish their back-to-back games against Grand Rapids Christian, the boys head west to play Grand Haven on Friday. To cap off a grueling week of baseball, the Rangers travel back home to host West Ottawa in a doubleheader on Saturday.
