Looking into the upcoming winter season for sports, skiing is looking promising for FHC. Many athletes are visibly excited to shred the snow on the slopes. The ski team has many new participants this year, which includes the captains.
Skiing can get lots of people riled up and ready. All of the skiers out there know that when the snow arrives, get out on the slopes while you can because the Michigan weather can change in a beat. Snow is a thing that comes around during the winter season, and you have to take advantage of the weather when it comes. Regardless of what Mother Nature has in store, all of the skiers can’t wait to get out on the slopes to have a great year.
While they wait for the snow and perfect conditions, the athletes are in a good mental state and are ready to excel on the slopes, promising a great season ahead. This might be the best FHC ski team we have seen in a while. Their confidence already gives hope for a great season.
The skiers have many aspirations, and they are willing to pursue them with passion.
“A goal I am hoping to achieve this season is to improve overall from beginning to end,” says senior Alexis Rietema. “Because this is my first season, I have no feel for whether or not I will be fast or not. I am hoping to learn quickly and be decent by the end of the season.”
Being that it’s a unique sport, skiers typically have a background prior to joining the sport, but Rietema is starting from scratch.
“As this is my first year, I don’t have much of a background when it comes to competitive ski. Until now, I have only ever skied recreationally, but I am excited to see what this new style of ski will bring!”
Her teammate, Addyson Quinn, can relate.
“I am not completely sure how well I will ski this season. I haven’t skied since last season, but I’m very excited to get the season started” states Addyson.
Some skiers from FHC have been driven by their passion from up north. Addyson Quinn, stated, “What got me to start skiing was when I was in seventh grade, and I lived in Traverse City. I joined my middle school’s local ski team, and I have continued skiing since.”
A favorite ski hill is a big part of the passion. Chloe Cox mentions, “My favorite ski hill is Nubs Nob in Harbor Springs, Michigan. I’ve trained there for my whole racing career, and I love the people there.” Cox also stated, “The food is excellent, especially the curly fries, and the hill has a great mix of steep and fun runs. It also has a beautiful view of Lake Michigan from the top of the mountain, and the chairlifts are all color-coded.”
There are also new members to the team who will bring multiple new attributes, like Jonah Haughee. This is his first year on the ski team, and he also loves shooting flicks with his camera.
“It’s all about lighting, like what I do at football games, which is to adjust the settings to handle glare, and I will do the same out on the slopes.
The team is expecting greatness and resilience on the slopes this year, as veterans from previous seasons introduce the program to the new skiers. We will get our first glance at the athletes as their first race will be on January 6, 2026, and will be held at Cannonsburg in Belmont, Michigan. This will mark the beginning of a long journey for the ski team.
Ranger students, go out there and fill out a student section and watch the ski team crush the competition. There are only a few races to watch, and the support will boost the team into winning multiple races and even make it to the states.
This is going to be a fun year for the FHC ski team, and the excitement is growing.
