How long have you been playing tennis
“I’ve been playing tennis as long as I can remember, but I started taking it seriously around middle school.”
What other sports do you play at FHC?
“I don’t play any other sports. I’m not athletic enough for that. AP season is my spring sport.”
What is your best memory from your time playing tennis?
“My favorite memory from tennis is probably getting a migraine, throwing up, and then beating the 2 seed in my flight and playing the best match of my life.”
What are the strengths of this year’s team?
“The strength of the team this year is our secret weapon, Rei Hitachi, who hasn’t lost a match yet at 2 singles. Also, Jakob Rietema, our 1 singles who, is a 9 UTR and improving every day.”
What are your individual goals for this season?
“My individual goals this year are to make it to the second day of states. I have never gotten past the second round.”
Who is the biggest influence in your athletic career and why?
“My biggest athletic influence is either my mom, who helped me practice every day and still supports me day to day, or Sammy Yin, the GOAT, who coached me and inspired me to get better.”
What music do you listen to to get fired up for games?
“I don’t really listen to music before games. Hayden Tanner used to make me listen to the NJ Titans warm-up music, and sometimes I’ll listen to that.”
Do you have any superstitions associated with your games?
“I’m not very superstitious about tennis. I do believe in never putting things on Buddha unless you believe in them. I’ve become mildly Buddhist because once I put something on Buddha, and then the migraine incident happened.”
