On Friday night, December 9th, the JV boys basketball team took on the Reeths-Puffer Rockets.
This was the boys’ first away game of the year. After starting off 1-0 against Holland, the Rangers had strong expectations going into the game vs the Rockets. Last season, both the JV and freshman teams had success vs the Rockets, so they were hoping to continue that success.
Warmups were going well; the boys were knocking down shots, playing well, and talking on defense. Once warmups had finished, the boys broke down the huddle and were ready for play.
The game started off as not very good for the Rangers. With being down 10-2 early, coach Ike called a timeout. In the timeout, Coach Ike told the boys to stay in front of their man and just slow the game down overall. Straight of the timeout, Sophomore Colin Marvin had 2 great takes to the rim to get them within 4.
As the end of the half came to an end, the Rangers went on a huge run to take the lead because of their great rebounding. Going into the locker room, the team energy was great. Everyone knew that they were gonna have momentum going into the second half.
Right into the second half, the boys had all the momentum, and it started off very well with Sophomore Blake Teliczan getting an and-one. This was followed by the Rangers taking advantage of the 2-3 zone that the Rockets were running. Marvin kicked it to Sophomore Will Costello at the free throw line and back out to Teliczan to knock down a three from the wing.
In the middle of the third quarter, the Rangers started to press full court. Right away, the press made the Rockets turn it over many times. The boys started to do this for the rest of the quarter, and they continued to get easy buckets. At the end of the third, the Rangers had a comfortable 10-point lead.
In the 4th quarter, the boys controlled the rest of the game and got a comfortable win with a score of 61-44.
