Name: Latham Young
Sport: Freshman basketball
Grade: Freshman
How long have you been playing basketball?
“I’ve been playing basketball for as long as I can remember, all the way back to kindergarten. Ever since then, I’ve played for the YMCA and for the past couple of years for FHC in middle school and this freshman season.”
What other sports do you play at FHC?
“I plan on playing one other sport for FHC other than basketball, and that is golf in the spring.”
What is your favorite memory from your time playing basketball?
“My favorite memory of my basketball career has to be last year when I scored 17 against our rivals FHN. It felt so good to be able to perform in such a big game like that and to be able to help my team fight for the win.”
What are the strengths of this year’s team?
“I feel that the strength of this year’s team is that we have a lot of guys who are willing to go into the game and give it their 110% effort no matter how tired they might be.”
What are your individual goals for this season?
“A couple of my individual goals for this season are to become a better team player on and off the court, to play more sound defense, and finally get inside the paint early and often in each and every game I play.”
Who is the biggest influence in your athletic career?
“Undoubtedly the biggest influence on my athletic career is Michael Jordan. He is the GOAT (greatest of all time) of basketball but that’s not why I think that he’s my biggest influence. The way he worked so hard and how it paid off for him. He continued to put in the work even after being cut from his varsity team, but he handled adversity and ended up becoming an all-time great of the game.”
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
“My favorite professional athlete is my favorite basketball player, Cassius Winston. He led MSU to the final four in 2019 after beating #1 Duke in the elite eight and ending his career with the all-time program record for career assists. Watching him play basketball made me fall in love with this game.”
What is your favorite class this year and why?
“My favorite class this year is Strength and Conditioning because I have tons of friends in that class and a really nice teacher, and being able to get away from the stress of learning for an hour is an amazing feeling.”
