A lot of questions were put into play this year with the Detroit Lions like whether or not it will be a successful season or Jared Goff living up to the hype that he showed last year. So far, he has shown it.

Goff will be a top-seven quarterback by the end of this season.

Coming off of the 2022 season, Goff had an outstanding and over-performing display. He finished with 4438 yards and 29 touchdowns, but he still had some flaws. He threw seven interceptions and had a mediocre completion percentage of 65.9%. Now if we look into the first five games of the season, he has been elite.

Week one has shown us what is coming for the rest of the season.

Why?

The week one showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs undeniably posed the toughest challenge for Goff this season. The Chiefs are normally known for their high-powered offense consisting of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but their defense is also very potent. Even with star player Chris Jones on the defensive side for the Chiefs being injured, the Chiefs still fought and showed how they were last year’s Super Bowl champs. The game was close on both sides, but the Lions came out with a win. Goff played in a superb performance. He completed 22 out of 35 passes against an amazing secondary and also threw for 256 yards and one touchdown. This single game showed that Goff can navigate through intricate defenses and read good coverage.

This game was a chip on his shoulder, ready to be broken off.

Now, if we look into the following games after week one, we see Goff move even forward. In week two, he threw for 323 yards, 3 touchdowns, and also had an 80% pass completion. In week three, he threw for 243 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons, who are an uprising team. In week four, he passed for 210 yards and one touchdown. This week against the Panthers, he had a 71.4% completion percentage while bulleting 236 yards and three touchdowns. Currently, Goff is on pace for 25+ passing touchdowns and 3500+ yards.

Another reason why Goff will be so successful this year is because of Ben Johnson. The things he has been able to accomplish due to Johnson have been amazing, and it’s only been one season since he’s been appointed as offensive coordinator. Johnson can create offensive schemes that are tailored to Goff’s strengths. By doing this, it maximizes the talents of the Lions roster, allowing Goff to create big plays. Their cooperation between Johnson’s play calling and Goff’s ability to throw the football created a dynamic partnership that helped Goff propel himself into the top 7 of all quarterbacks in the NFL.

With this all in mind, Goff will be a top quarterback moving into the peak of his career. He will be in the top seven.
