Wednesday opened up the week for the Rangers with a very familiar opponent. The Rangers faced off with Grand Rapids Christian, whom they played just two weeks prior, in which the Rangers won by a score of 2-1. Christian came into the game with a measly record of 2-10-2, but the Eagles have been on a more positive trend as of late. The last three games for the Eagles saw them win two out of their three with wins over Tri-Valley and FNV. The third game for the Eagles ended in a 2-2 tie against Forest Hills Northern/Eastern.

To begin the game, the Rangers immediately showed the Eagles that their positive trend was in jeopardy of ending, as they threw the first punch of the game. Early in the first, senior Xavier Ott netted his first goal of the season after senior Collin Ward dished out a beautiful assist. The rest of the first period would see the scorebook remain scoreless as the Rangers took a 1-0 lead into the second.

The second period would be the dagger in the heart of the Eagles. The Rangers scored four more goals in the quarter after junior Josh Smith got the scoring run going off a pass from sophomore Sammy Mielock and senior captain Jacob Campbell. The next two goals came from Mielock after Jacob got his second assist of the day, and junior Lucas Jefferys got his first assist. The last goal of the day would be Ott’s second goal on the day and the second of his season. The final score of this one ended in a 5-0 win in favor of the Rangers.

The Rangers are now 5-9 on the season and remain 5th in the Baum Division of the OK conferences. The last game of the regular season for the Rangers will be on Friday, March 12th versus the Rockford Rams at the Patterson Ice Arena. Because time is dwindling down in the regular season, the Rangers must pull off an upset against Rockford in order to have a chance to punch their ticket to the playoffs.
