Varsity wrestling battled the Kenowa Hills Knights this past Wednesday for the Rangers’ Senior Night. The Rangers had an outstanding performance in a dominating 51-15 victory. They also honored their nine seniors, more than half of whom have been wrestling since at least middle school. Although this would be some of the wrestlers last time competing in their own gym, the team did not waiver from their task at hand.

Prior to the boys varsity match, the girls varsity wrestlers and boys JV team had a handful of exhibition matches as well. Seniors Rebecca Dooley and Rachel Schenck were able to swiftly win their matches for the Lady Ranger wrestlers. Also, freshman Michael Frazer and junior Remmie Gavle were able to contribute two more wins for the Rangers during the boisterous night.

Seniors Caden Jacobs, Mason Childers, Isaac Gurley, Jhett Gavle and Bryce Hysong were all able to make a huge impact for the team as each individual won their match propelling the team to victory. Also, junior Will Richardson and sophomore Blake Jacobs were able to gain wins for the team as well. With much of varsity’s starting lineup consisting of seniors, head coach Brad Anderson will look for upcoming upperclassmen Will Richardson, Evan Elzinga, Greyson Ripmaster, Blake Jacobs, and Michael Campbell to make big impacts in the upcoming year.

The Rangers now move to 8-4 on their regular season record and remain 4-4 in their conference competition. The teams next quad will be at Grand Haven high school this upcoming Saturday, March 6. The boys will be competing against Grand Haven, Holland, and Zeeland West starting at 10:00am.
