This weekend the varsity baseball team took on not only Kenowa Hills but also the team also played its first game against East Grand Rapids at the Hudsonville Invite. These games followed a tough battle against Byron Center earlier this week, but the outcome was much different.

“After coming off of a great win we thought that Kenowa would be an easier team to beat”, said junior Mason Mcdonald.

This past Saturday, April 15, FHC baseball started the day off against Kenowa Hills. The team lost by only one run with the final score being 10-11. Kenowa Hills took the lead early in the game by scoring two runs in the first inning. This lead continued until the fifth inning when FHC scored six runs in the top of the inning. This was an inning packed with excitement that included a double by junior Josh Tellier, a sacrifice fly by senior Sam Ardinger, and another double by Alex Brown. for this game, Isaiah Write and Sam Ardinger pitched for the Rangers. Although the Rangers fought hard to come back they fell one step behind.

Later in the day The boys faced EGR and took another heartbreaking loss. EGR started off with a massive lead by starting with three runs in the first inning along with another three in the second. With this lead, the Ranger could simply not catch up. They did put up some good pushback in the first though, with four runs scored. Mason batted in three runners in the first inning and Josh also had one RBI. Sadly, after that the Rangers did not go on to score anymore and the score for their team stayed at four leaving a final score of 4-8.

Luckily the Rangers have a chance to redeem themselves in a game against EGR coming up on Monday, April 17. The team is feeling good about this game despite the past. Junior Hayden Myers said, “We can definitely perform better than this weekend and have a successful game on Monday.” This game will be held at EGR at 4:15 pm.
