This past Saturday, March 10, The FHC Hockey team took on Detroit Catholic Central at the USA ice arena to compete in the MHSAA state semi-final. The Rangers were looking ready coming into this game, but the DCC record held strong with only one loss behind them this season, the Shamrocks were ready to go all the way to states.

The Rangers played as well as they could, but sadly, their season came to an end with an ending score of 5-0 with the Shamrocks demolishing the competition. Even though the Rangers could not take home the division one state title, the 22-23 Ranger hockey team went farther than ever before by making it to the frozen four.

The game started off slow with only one goal being scored in the first period, but it quickly picked up with four more goals being scored during the rest of the game by the Shamrocks. The Rangers fought to the end with one of the last calls being a penalty for roughing. The Rangers knew this game was going to be a fight, but they could not have prepared for the experience seen in DCC.

Senior Justin Baehr comments, “They were very persistent and they wore us down going into the second. They capitalized on the opportunities we gave them,” when talking about the tactics DCC used when playing.

In the end, the Rangers tried their hardest, but the Shamrocks were overpowering in every way. Leaving the rink, the Rangers can look back on an extremely accomplished season with many ups and downs along the way.
