Boys JV soccer suffers tough 3-0 loss to Portage Northern

Following a devastating loss to Forest Hills Northern, the boys knew they had to move past that game and prepare themselves for another challenging opponent, the Portage Northern Huskies. To start the game, the boys out possessed the Huskies and were able to get some attacks on net by sending the ball out wide to their winger, freshman Jacob Robertson. However, Portage Northern eventually shut down the Rangers’ attempts, and due to freshman center back Andrew Schepel receiving a yellow card late in the first half, the Huskies were able to capitalize on him having to be out of the game by knocking in a rebound off a shot. This led to Portage taking the momentum into half and sitting on a 1-0 lead.

To start the second half, the boys knew they had to put pressure on the Huskies from the start. Although the boys were pushing their way to even up the score, due to a controversial call, the Huskies were awarded a penalty kick early in the second half to extend the lead to 2-0. FHC freshman goalkeeper Lance Childers was able to make some incredible saves late in the second half, but the Rangers offense never found their rhythm. To seal the game, Portage Northern was able to slip the ball in one last time as time expired, leaving the Rangers with a devastating 3-0 loss.

Following the loss, the Rangers’ record now sits at 4-4 for the regular season and 3-3 in their conference. The boys’ next game is this Monday, September 28 at 5:30 PM. The Rangers take on the Greenville Yellow Jackets in another important conference game for them.
