With the football team’s big win against Reeths-Puffer in the first round of the playoffs, many of its players are hyped up for the next game against Mona Shores in the district championship. But how much does the school know about how big of an impact the football team has?
Junior Owen Milanowski said, “They’re good. I know they just beat Reeths-Puffer in the playoffs. I don’t know much else than that.”
Currently, the team is 10-0, winning out in the regular season plus their first round playoff win. As a result of their perfect record in the regular season, the Rangers finished in first place and captured yet another OK White Conference title. They also clinched the #1 seed in the Division 2 playoffs.
Senior Matthew Holtgrieve and a former member of the football team said, “I follow them pretty closely because I used to be part of the team myself.” Holtgrieve played wide receiver and safety for the Rangers from 2019 to 2021.
Out of all of the sports that the school offers, our football team is unique in that it’s something that most students actually follow. The football team has helped build the school’s culture.
The “This is Ranger Country” chant is used many times during the football games, and is used to hype up the crowd. Even if someone knows next to nothing about the rules of football, FHC football games can easily unite every student in the stands to get pumped for the game.
Many school events rally around football games including the homecoming game, possibly the most important school event on the school calendar.
Considering how much of an impact the football team has on the school, we should definitely be prepared to cheer it on in the playoffs, especially against frequent playoff opponent Mona Shores. Hopefully this will finally be the year that everything is put together, and the school will finally make it to the state championship.
