Girls golf takes 4th at conference tournament
More stories from Peyton Price
Earlier this morning the lady Rangers competed at the OK White Conference tournament. In the end, the team took 4th, but junior captains Skyler Tierney and Maya Fitzgerald made it to All-Conference to represent FHC. In the match Skyler shot 81, Maya shot 89, Izzie Scholler shot 95, Quinn Breslin shot 96, Morgan Cerny shot 105, and Claire Marvin shot 107. With all of those scores, the team placed 4th, behind East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills Northern, and Byron Center.
“Today was a good day,” coach TenEyck explained. “We have continued to improve. Next week will be a big week for us, regionals will determine whether our season continues or ends. If we continue to play better, we have a legitimate chance of making it out of regionals and onto states. All five girls that play in regionals will need to have one of their best days of the season.”
TenEyck has remained hopeful of his teams success throughout the entire season. Luckily it has paid off many times, and I’m positive it will again at the regional tournament.
Skyler commented on how she felt about the match and how she played. “A cold start but it was a beautiful day to be out on the course,” she stated. “My first couple of holes I was put in some very challenging situations which resulted in a couple blow up holes, so the rest of the round I really had to just take it hole by hole and battle to the end.”
Skyler has continued to prove herself worthy of being a captain, always staying positive and willing to help any of her teammates. She’s also immensely helped the team in general with all of her great scores match by match. Viewers should be confident she will not only make it there but also do very well in the states.
The regional tournament takes place next week on Tuesday at nine a.m. and is held at Arrowhead Golf Club.
