Yesterday afternoon, the lady ranger golfers proved that hard work does pay off. As predicted, the words “Forest Hills Central” were sitting comfortably at the top of the leaderboard at the Kenowa Hills Invite. The team achieved a well-deserved mental boost, taking down eight other opponents, including four major rivals, East Grand Rapids, Lowell, Forest Hills Eastern, and Forest Hills Northern.
“Really proud of the way our girls played today,” HOF coach Paul TenEyck noted. “They battled through some tough holes and were able to keep it together. Skyler and Maya played exceptionally well today.”
Once again, juniors Skyler Tierney and Maya Fitzgerald lead the team, both of them tying for 2nd place individually, scoring 79 strokes. Sophomores Abby Schnelker and Quinn Breslin followed up by tying for 3rd place within the team. The girls showed their true colors and let their opponents know they must watch out for them in the future.
Skyler explained how the course played: “The greens were incredibly slow; that was something I wasn’t used to and had to adjust to right away on the course. Gracewil has a lot of trees, so I had to do a decent amount of punch shots to try to make it work.”
The ladies play again on Tuesday, September 13, at Watermark Country Club at 3:30 p.m. Live tweets will be sent out during the jamboree.
