The varsity volleyball team enters inner-conference play once more after a huge weekend at Jenison. FHC recently took home a championship in Jenison this weekend, and the Rangers headed back to Grand Rapids to square off against Byron Center.
In that contest, the Rangers would continue their success on the road, picking up yet another win with sets won by scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-20 while dropping the second set 25-27. Head coach Natalie Roelfzema was fired up to continue the team’s road domination as the regular season end is drawing near.
“Keeping the success on the road in the conference has been crucial for us to continue to move forward in improving and building upon individual and team skills,” coach Roelfzema said. “This focus will be important for us to continue our success as we move into conference and district play.”
In the stat book, the young bucks led the way. Sophomore Avery Weslow went for 4 aces, 7 kills, and 13 digs, while fellow sophomore Kadence Roelfzema picked up 21 assists. Juniors Averie Zaschak and Sarah Dunn continued a powerful run, as Averie went for 23 assists and 6 aces, and Dunn accounted for 12 kills, 2 blocks, and 21 digs. Senior superstar duo Brooklyn Conner and Sophie Shields also performed to their highest ability, as Brooklyn notched 19 kills and 4 blocks. In addition, Sophie accounted for 14 kills, 3 aces, and 11 digs.
Another win to open up a busy week for the Rangers helps the team out; they will head into several league tournaments soon.
“This week is a big week for our team, playing both Byron Center and Forest Hills Northern. The win against Byron Center tonight continues to shows this team’s hard work and dedication to working towards a common goal. Heading into our senior night, tonight’s win allows us to continue our momentum,” coach Roelfzema said.
The 31-4-2 Rangers now move onto senior night on Thursday, October 14, versus a very familiar rival: the Forest Hills Northern Huskies. This will be the last game of the regular season before the league tournaments commence on Thursday, October 21.
