More stories from Mason Corcoran
Following the Rangers statement win over their rival Forest Hills Eastern, the team faced off against the toughest Division One team they would play all year in Hartland. FHC and Hartland have been familiar foes for the past few seasons, so both teams knew they were in for a close contest.
The game had numerous lead changes throughout all four quarters, which resulted in an action-packed first half. FHC’s sophomore attackmen significantly helped the team throughout the game, with sophomore Jonah McConnell scoring an impressive five goals on the day. Also, the team’s core attackmen contributed towards seven of the total eight goals scored by FHC. After an intense first half, the Rangers were down 5-4.
To start the second half, the boys knew they had to keep their foot on the pedal and outscore Hartland in the late stages of the game. Freshman Nolan Hartl has been imperative to the team’s success throughout the season; he especially demonstrated his value on the team during this game. Nolan dominated the face-off circle for the Rangers in the second half, winning the team more and more possessions. Combined with Jonah’s craftiness on the offensive end, Nolan led FHC to its biggest win of the season so far, beating Hartland 8-7.
After their impressive win, the boys record is now 3-2 on the season. The Rangers face two of their weaker opponents in back-to-back games this upcoming week. The team will travel to Hudsonville on Tuesday, April 20th, and Caledonia on Wednesday, April 21st. Looking ahead, the Rangers have their eyes set on the most prolific team featured on their schedule: Brother Rice.
