It seems as if the first district seeding game of the year for Forest Hills Varsity water polo has gone quite swimmingly. After narrowly defeating Grand Ledge in a 9-8 thriller, Forest Hills went on to crush Mason by a score of 18-2.
Offensively, junior Sofia Johnson did her Magic Johnson impression, dishing the rock around for a combined nine assists. Not only did she share the wealth, but she also scored a goal. The top goal scorers for Forest Hills in both games were junior Avery Verlinde with eight goals, senior Rachel Schenck with six, and junior Caroline Bell with four.
In net for Forest Hills, junior Jessica Plantamura had a very successful weekend. The first game saw Jessica come through in the clutch, making eleven saves out of 19 shots on goal for a save percentage of 57%. Normally, it’s difficult to stop many more shots than that. However, Plantamura gave up way fewer goals in the second game and played at an even higher level, as she dominated the net and made nine saves on 11 shots.
Forest Hills is now 3-2 on the year and has turned things around after dropping the first two games of the season. Their next matchup will take place on Tuesday, April 20th against the Grandville Bulldogs. Once Forest Hills is done with Grandville, they will play Zeeland West and Portage Central in a span of just three days.
