Name: Scarlett Dombrowski
Sport: Golf
Grade: 9th
How long have you been playing golf?
I’ve been playing golf since around 4 years old. I reached 12 and fell out of it a lot and then picked it back up to start playing more often this summer!
What other sports do you play at FHC?
I play tennis in the spring, and golf and tennis definitely go hand in hand in terms of what abilities you have to use.
What is your best memory from your time playing golf?
There are a lot of fond memories, but if I had to choose one, it’d probably be at our match in Indian Trails at the start of the season. I managed to bring down my score to a 39 in 9 holes, which I haven’t accomplished in a while. It felt like I was getting back in the groove of things, I’m really proud of myself for it!!
What are the strengths of this year’s team?
The ability to encourage each other when a shot doesn’t go well or we’re feeling down. A TON of compliments are given throughout, and it helps everyone get in a better mindset. I definitely appreciate it when I feel I’m not doing my best, it lightens the mood and makes me realize it’s not just about golf but also the community surrounding it.
What are your individual goals for this season?
Get better at my short game, chipping, and putting. I have mastered a lot of my long-range shots (in terms of distance at least), but I think my short game is what can throw off my scores a lot. I just need to practice!!
Who is the biggest influence in your athletic career and why?
My dad has helped me a lot throughout my golf career. He’s what gets me out on the course and playing. I also saw how he was in high school and I aspire to do as good as he did…. if not better!! He got me into the sport, and he’s what keeps me ready and playing.
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
I don’t watch many sports as much as I play them, but I would say Kendall Dye. I met her at a lemonade stand I hosted with some friends in Midland during the LPGA. The money went to a girl with leukemia (she recovered fully!!), and through her coming to that, I saw her and what she did. She’s a really sweet soul who continued to inspire me throughout my young career.
Who was your favorite teacher in elementary school?
I moved around 6 times when I was growing up so it’s no one in the district, but I had a teacher named Mrs. Tiganelli, whom I loved. She taught math and was always so kind. I remember having to wake up extra early on Wednesdays to take an honors type class and sleeping in on accident once, she was really nice about it though… so thankfully I wasn’t punished!!
