The first week of the NFL just wrapped up. There were some busts and some players who performed big for your team. Here are the top 5 best-performing players in week one of fantasy football.
#5. Javonte Williams (20.4): Cowboys running back Javonte Williams was the most unexpected on this list. Williams was projected at 8.1 and could have been less. Williams has been battling it out with Miles Sanders and former Texas running back Jaydon Blue. With this running back core, it was believed that there would be shared snaps. After this performance, it is clear that Javonte Williams will continue to be in a lead role and stack up fantasy points.
#4. Daniel Jones (29.5): Daniel Jones signed with the Colts just this offseason. They signed him to replace the struggling and injury-prone Anthony Richardson. Jones made his first start as a Colt against the Miami Dolphins. Jones was projected to get 16.5 fantasy points, but blew that out of the water by scoring 29.5. Jones threw for 272 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Jones rushed for 26 yards and 2 touchdowns. Daniel Jones was a very unexpected player to perform this well. Many are saying that the nickname “Danny Dimes” will return as it appears that Jones is back in full Alabama form this season.
#3. Justin Fields (29.5): Justin Fields played great in his first game with the Jets. He completed 16 of his 22 passing attempts for 1 touchdown. On the ground, Fields found his rhythm with 12 carries for 48 yards and two touchdowns. The Jets bringing in Lions defensive coordinator Arron Glenn as a head coach, along with many new coaches, has unlocked Fields and helped bring back his confidence. Justin outperformed his projection by 10.5 points. Although the Jets lost this game, it was a great game for Fields, and this should be expected again in the future.
#2. Lamar Jackson (29.36): Lamar Jackson had played great against the tough Buffalo Bills team. Jackson put up significant stats during this battle. Lamar completed 14 of 19 pass attempts for 209 yards and two passing touchdowns. Lamar also added 70 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown to his stat line for the night. Lamar outperformed his projected 22 points with an outstanding 29.36 points. Jackson, being a dual-threat quarterback, helps out fantasy owners all the time, but especially this week.
#1. Josh Allen (38.76): Josh Allen had the best fantasy football performance of the week. Prior to this matchup, it had fantasy managers nervous that their players would not perform. But this is not the case for Josh Allen. Allen led his team to a comeback victory against the Ravens. The Bills and Allen rallied back after being down 15 with four minutes to go in the 4th, making the final score 41-40. Allen completed 33 of 46 passes for 394 yards and two touchdowns. Allen rushed 14 times for 30 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Allen was projected to get 20.83 points and crushed that projection, recording 38.8 points. This has the opportunity to be one of the best fantasy performances of the season.
