Recently, one of the well-known coaches in the world has stepped down from the NFL.
Bill Belichick was the coach for the most dominant team in NFL history. He recently parted ways with the Patriots. End of an era, people thought. However, 9 months later, in December 2024, he took a position as the Head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Bill is known for his tough attitude and crack-down personality. He doesn’t care about his team, just wants to win. He is used to professional athletes and the mindset of let’s win and make money. This is why people are concerned and questioning if he is gonna be a good fit. College players, you gotta worry about them goofing off and the unprofessional side of the sport.
Belichick has been doing a terrible job with his recruiters. Yes, North Carolina is 17th now in the country with recruits coming in. He isn’t utilizing the transfer portal and has almost no weapons on his team. Although a ton of kids are coming in, he is leaving recruits stranded on the visits to the Heel. He is inviting tons of kids to come out and show them around, but he isn’t meeting up. He is leaving them stranded with no insight into what to do. Bill is being very unprofessional and frankly rude to these kids.
The Patriots were paying Bill about 10 million dollars every year over a span of 24 seasons. The Tar Heels have just paid Bill the same amount, $10 million a year, over a span of 5 years. Is Bill really worth the same as he was on a Professional team? I doubt it. He is getting paid the same to coach kids who most likely aren’t making the NFL. Why pay him to coach kids who aren’t anywhere near the talent of the dynasty he had?
Bill started the season getting killed by TCU. He later in week two only beat Charlotte by 17 and only put up 20 on them. His team is not good, and he isn’t helping the cause with his tough attitude and bringing the team down. Tom Brady even quoted, while leaving the Patriots,” a natural tension had developed between where Coach Belichick and I were headed in our careers, and where the Patriots were moving as a franchise.” If the best player in football thinks that he’s not the best coach, then how are you to argue that he is a fit for college football and way less professional players?
Overall, Bill is being paid way too much for what he is producing on the field and how he is treating his players, and even to the sport in general.
