How long have you been playing volleyball?
“I have been playing Volleyball for 4 and a half years.”
What position do you play and what does that position do?
“I am a DS, which stands for a defensive specialist. A DS plays back row and is usually a reliable passer who can get the ball to the setter.”
Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals that you do before your games?
“Before our games, I like to listen to music. It resets my mind and prepares my mindset. This way, I can start a match with good thoughts.”
Do you play any other sports for FHC?
“I will start the girl’s Ski Team later this winter.”
What’s been your favorite part about playing high school volleyball?
“My favorite part of playing high school volleyball is definitely all the team building we do. I’ve never been really close with my previous teammates in recent years but this year I feel like my teammates all have bonded and they are some of my closest friends now.”
What are some strengths of the team this year?
“Some of the freshman team’s strengths are definitely the energy and liveliness that each person brings to the court. Even when our team is down, each person finds a way to bring the best out of each teammate. “
What are your individual goals for this season?
“One individual goal that I have this year is to work on all my skills. Specifically in my passing but I think I can improve on many skills.”
What’s one of your favorite volleyball memories?
“One of my favorite volleyball memories was when we went to the gold bracket in Hudsonville during a tournament. The team we played was unbeatable and had incredible communication. They were definitely a tough team, and I think no one on our team expected the scores to be so close. I remember the energy that our team brought, and it was the most energy I have seen from every one of my teammates. Whatever we were supposed to do, we delivered. That was the first time I really saw improvement and one united team. Unfortunately, we did lose by only a couple of points, but no one really thought of that as a loss because we all felt so much improvement.”
