The return to school from spring break also means the return of spring sports, which is no different for the girls track & field team. On Tuesday, April 11, the girls competed at the OK White Tri at Northview against Greenville Yellow Jackets and Northview Wildcats.
Throughout the meet, the girls proved themselves over and over again on the strength of the team itself. Starting off strong in the individuals on track, they were able to sweep the field in the 100 meter with Emma Goring taking first with a time of 13.22, Brooke Bowers taking second with 13.51, and Lucy Yoder in third place with 13.52. They also took a clean sweep in the 800 meters with Peyton Ludwing taking first with a time of 2:24.70, Clara Jame-Heer taking second with a time of 2:33.63, and Anna Krampe taking third with a time of 2:43.18.
Not only did the girls thrive in the individuals on the track, but pulled away with three out of four wins in the relays. The relays that they won were the 4×100 meter with Lucy Yoder, Brooke Bowers, Zenash Cumings, Lauryn Gaskin; 4×200 meter with Lucy Yoder, Gwen Lamport, Zenash Cumings, Emma Goring; and the 4×800 meter with Lilah Yoder, Mia Stibitz, Anna Sybenga, and Peyton Ludwig.
However, the team not only dominated on track but did extremely well on the field as well. Starting off the field strong, Olivia Latunski came out of the shot put in second place with a throw of 27’ 7.75 while also taking second in the discus with a throw of 76’ 2. The girls also came out on top in the pole vault with Brooke Bowers taking first with a height of 11’ 6 and Abby Cumings taking second with a height of 8’ 6. Gwen Lamport also took the win in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 3.25.
Overall, the girls had a phenomenal first meet back from spring break and are ready to go into their next meet against a large school rival: Forest Hills Northern Huskies. The girls will be competing at home on Thursday, April 13, at 4:15 pm. Make sure to make it out and support the girls for this rivalry meet.
