Across the globe, soccer is played in various leagues and at different levels. The best leagues are in Europe such as La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A, but one in particular stands above the rest: the English Premier League.

The World Cup is the most important tournament in all of soccer, and it showcases the best teams and players. The team that wins the whole thing has the best players in the world, and although Argentina won the World Cup, it does not mean that the best players play in Argentina, but rather are from Argentina. The 2022 World Cup winning squad was comprised mostly of players that play club soccer in Europe, thus proving that the best players play in Europe.

European soccer has the best talent in the world and not only is that shown in the World Cup but also in the Champions League. The Champions League gives fans the opportunity to see how their teams are compared to those outside of their own league. This also helps to give perspective on which league is the best overall. It would seem simple to jump to the conclusion that the league with the most Champions League titles would be the best, but that is not the case.

While the league may have one or two good teams, that does not make the league “good” because all of the teams below the top two are trash. La Liga has been dominated by Barcelona and Real Madrid for the longest time with both teams having multiple Champions League trophies; however, the teams below those two are very underwhelming and struggle to make runs deep into the Champions League. This is not the case for the Premier League.

Two years ago, the final was between Chelsea and Manchester City in which Chelsea was victorious. This year, Liverpool was able to make it to the final but came up short against Real Madrid. Three English teams have made the final in the past two years which shows that the league not only has the talent but that it is spread out more than other leagues. The lower-level version of the Champions League, the Europa League, has also seen recent English domination. Both Chelsea and Manchester United have both won it in recent history. This year, both Manchester United and Arsenal remain in the round of sixteen, and both have a solid chance to win it.

Although the Premier League may be the best in the world at the moment, that could change in the future. Both the Bundesliga and La Liga have some teams with great potential that could bust onto the Champions League scene anytime now, but for the moment, England has the best club soccer.
