The Ranger Volleyball Team is named district champs
The Rangers continue to thrive in the playoffs. With their second-round match being against the Caledonia, FHC made quick work of the Fighting Scotts to win the MHSAA District Championship; the first step to the regional finals which was the point where last year’s volleyball season received an emotional end.
Players such as senior captain Averie Zaschek, senior Ally Werkema, and junior Maggie Sneider delivered many key points in this match. The ladies’ ability to set up plays was on full display on Thursday night. Staying focused and calm is what helps the Rangers control the game. The ladies were on point in every aspect of the game along with some very strong spikes delivered by senior Sarah Dunn. It’s what we all expected to see, a strong Ranger team that showed up to do one job and one job only: to win.
“I feel like we all really came together as a team,” said junior Mila Kavara. “We really wanted to win, that emotion pushed us and we gave the match all we had. It was a well-earned win.”
The ladies looked strong, just like they have all season. Minimizing their errors has been a key part of their success this year. After going undefeated in the regular season, the Rangers have placed a large target on their back. With a season almost as strong as last year, any team would love to crush the Ranger’s post-season ambitions.
The next opponent is Hudsonville, a strong adversary. This will be their first round of regionals and the ladies need to focus on what is important and take this “step” one match at a time.
