A new era for the Detroit Lions

It has already begun to look like a typical season for the Detroit Lions. With a 1-4 start to the season, things seem to be pretty grim for the Lions’ organization. However, in contrast to the popular belief, I believe this will be their best season in years.

The team looks strong this year with many talented players on the roster which include running back D’Andre Swift, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, tight end T.J. Hockenson, and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson to name a few. The team is looking more balanced this year with strong sides on the offense and defense. Some say that the Lions’ season is shaping up to be the same as last year, in which the Lions only had three wins. However, true Lions fans know the true ability and talent that this team has.

So far, the Lions have shown that they can score touchdowns, which is something they had struggled with last year. Paired with a mediocre defense led by their first round pick Aidan Hutchinson, the Lions have been somewhat able to keep their opponents within a single score deficit. Although the team can score, the Lions often put themselves into a “hole” and have had to come back from as much as seventeen points in the fourth quarter in order to win. This has put fear into the hearts of Detroit fans, but there is nothing to worry about.

For the past two weeks, the team has been without a pair of star players including D’Andre Swift and Amon-Ra St. Brown, but with those players returning soon, the team will be back to full strength. Even without these key players, the Lions still put up a solid fight against their opponents. With a full and healthy roster, this team is practically unstoppable if they play to the best of its ability.

I believe in this team, and I believe in what this team can accomplish. When the Lions play at their best, they can beat any team. Despite their record, we’ve seen positive things from this group of players. I don’t care that Jared Goff isn’t the best quarterback in the NFL; he doesn’t need to be. As long as he can get the ball to St. Brown, Reynolds, Clark or any other receiver, the team will be fine. In the backfield, we have Swift and Williams, two extremely strong backs. I’d argue that the Lions have the best running back tandem in the league. To some, this may be bold statements, but real Lions fans know it’s true.

The past two years have been embarrassing for the program, and the Lions are due for a good season. The Lions franchise is the oldest team in the NFL to have never been to a Super Bowl. This is the beginning of a new era for the Lions. The feeling that this team gives off when its on the field is different, and I can tell. There are many football games left in the NFL season, and I’m predicting that the Lions win the NFC North not because I’m a Lions fan, but because I truly believe this is a new beginning for the Lions organization.
