Game day is the best day of the week for any athlete at FHC whether it is Friday for football, Tuesday for volleyball, or Thursday for soccer. All athletes look forward to game day, and most teams show that in their attire.

There has always been a tradition of teams wearing certain clothing on game day to both let others know about the game and also to show their love for the team. This tradition started with the football team. Every Friday, the Ranger football players wear their jerseys to school along with Khaki shorts. Collin Kirkman has played football at FHC since third grade and is now a part of the varsity team. Collin said, “It is an honor to wear the Ranger jersey to school. My teammates and I take pride in going to school in the Ranger green and white on game day to show our love for the team.”

There is a wide variety of sports at FHC, and all of them are as passionate as the others. These various teams have all embodied the excellence FHC is known for; therefore, it is a privilege to play on a Ranger team. The student-athletes of FHC are proud of their teams.

One of these teams that is proud of the excellence it displays is the boy’s tennis team. Although they do not get the same attention as the football team, they are equally as important. The tennis team, like the football team, wears their uniforms on match days. Although the tennis jersey isn’t as iconic as the football jersey, it still holds the same value to our school. Junior Nico Notarnicola has played varsity tennis for all three years of his high school career and had much to say about what he wears on match days. “It’s tradition. It gets us ready for our match and lets other students know that we have a match.”

Although some teams wear jerseys, not all of them do. The volleyball team does something a little different on game day. “Sometimes we wear Ranger volleyball gear, and other times we dress up to bring us together,” said junior Maggie Sneider. Dressing up can mean a wide variety of things. For the volleyball girls, it usually means wearing a dress or pair of jeans and a nice top; however, they are not the only team that dresses up for game day.

When playoffs roll around for the boys soccer team, they take dressing up very seriously. Everyone on the team wears a suit and tie to school for every game day in playoffs. Past Ranger soccer teams have done this, and captain Noah Burr plans to carry it into the playoffs this year. “This year we will wear suits to show that we are serious about winning and that everyone is bought into it,” said Noah. The tradition of wearing suits during playoffs has been something many teams at FHC have participated in. The hockey team and boys lacrosse team are two that come to mind. Both have had recent success in the playoffs, so maybe some of that can be attributed to what they wear.

Throughout FHC’s history of excellence and victory, the Ranger teams have had many games, matches, and meets. Every team has cherished these games and shown that by wearing something to school that displays their excitement for the game, match, or meet that lies ahead. As the old adage goes: lookin’ good, feelin’ good.
