Throughout the past couple of weeks, fantasy football has been a train ride. From breakout stars that finally have their first bad performance of the year to star players struggling with injuries or a good defense. Anyways, some of our sports reporters are still reflecting on fantasy football as they do every week. Here are their recaps for week 6 of the NFL season.
Best Overall Player:
Adam: Julio Jones ATL WR
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones finally had his first breakout performance that all fantasy owners all over the world have been waiting for. Jones had 8 catches for 137 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. Jones was all over the place as he was taking away more catches from fellow wide receiver Calvin Ridley as fantasy owners were not happy about him. I would expect Jones to have more points in the next up and coming weeks.
Mac: Derek Henry TEN RB
Another week where a fantasy player cracks the 40 point game mark. This week Derek Henry takes home the crown of the most fantasy points with a sensational game which led to the Tennessee Titans beating the Houston Texans in overtime because of a game-winning touchdown from who else but Henry himself. He ran for 212 yards on 22 carries for 2 touchdowns which also includes a 94 yards rushing touchdown earlier in the game.
Louis: Deshaun Watson HOU QB
Once again Deshaun Watson continues to put the Texans on his back and carry them. Even though the Texans only have 1 win, Watson has been playing great recently. Sunday, in a shootout against the Titans, Watson put up great numbers in a loss. He had 4 touchdowns, 335 yards, and 32 fantasy points. Although Watson didn’t have the best start to the season, fantasy owners have to love what they are seeing out of him so far.
Best Underrated Player:
Adam: Steelers Defense/Special Teams
I never expected a defense to make it on this list, but boy oh boy do the Steelers have one of the top defenses in the league. The Steelers did play an injured Baker Mayfield but that does not go by the fact that the Steelers defense had 19 points when they were projected to have only 6. Expect big things to come from this Pittsburgh defense.
Mac: Justin Jefferson MIN WR
The rookie from Louisiana State University has easily proven he does not need Joe Burrow to have success. Justin has made a very nice target for Kirk Cousins to throw to. These two have had great success in the past few weeks and will be a crucial tandem if the Vikings choose to rebuild. Jefferson had 39.6 points because of his 9 catch 166 yard 2 touchdown game. This all came in a loss to the Falcons so imagine what will happen in a game they win.
Louis: D’Andre Swift DET RB
D’Andre Swift has been quietly emerging as the lead back in Detroit and one of the best rookies from the draft class. He played an unbelievable game in a beatdown against Jacksonville which was the best game of his career. He had 14 carries for 116 yards along with 2 touchdowns. His production has been great for a rookie this season and he has had to split carries all season. This game was a great sign for fantasy owners with Swift as he will likely take on the lead role for the running back position.
Booms of the Week:
Adam: Deshaun Watson HOU QB
Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has not had an ideal year yet but he finally had a breakout game. Watson finally showed that he can still live up to what he was paid for over the offseason. Fantasy owners: expect him to have another good performance. With old head coach Bill O’Brien fired, he has been lifted off a burden off his shoulders.
Mac: Brandon McManus DEN K
24 points for a kicker, that’s pretty good if you ask me. For a kicker, that’s on a whole other level. This will be one of the highest scored games from a kicker this year so let’s be happy one of them finally gives me something to write about. He went 6 for 6 with 2 made from 50, 40, and 30 + respectively.
Louis: Julio Jones ATL WR
Julio Jones has been hurt for most of the season and being doubted by many fantasy owners but he finally had his breakout game. It was against the depleted Vikings defense but it still shows that Julio Jones can perform as a top receiver. He had 8 catches for 137 yards and 2 touchdown catches. It looks like Julio is back and healthy, so hold on to him if he’s on your team.
Bust of the Week:
Adam: Mike Davis CAR RB
Carolina Panthers running back Mike Davis made it to my players to start list last week as he had another over 20 point performance, but this week, Davis had his worst performance of the year. Davis had 18 carries for 52 rushing yards as well as 2 receptions for 3 receiving yards. This is what hurts Davis as he is lethal out of the backfield as a dual-threat. Expect Davis’ reps to go down as McCaffery will be coming back very soon.
Mac: Mike Gesicki MIA TE
Not a good week for the star Miami tight end. It seems he was not meant to be a big factor this week in the offense. Mike was only targeted twice which resulted in 0 catches for a whopping 0 fantasy points. Not good at all.
Louis: Mike Evans TB WR
Mike Evans really underperformed. Simple as that. He played terribly in a win for Tampa Bay. Evans only had 1 catch for 10 yards and was completely shut out for the rest of the game. But, Mike Evans is still a top 10 wide receiver so, do not expect this to become a trend.
Players to Start:
Adam: T.J. Hockenson DET TE
Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson has not had an ideal season so far, but he will have a breakout performance soon. Hockenson has constantly been getting more reps in practice and head coach Matt Patricia is trying to get Hockenson more involved in the Lions offense. Expect him to have more and more points every week very soon.
Mac: A.J Brown TEN WR
After sitting for two weeks because of injury, it seems A.J Brown is already back to the form he was showing us during his impeccable rookie season. He has had back to back 20+ point games with a huge performance yesterday during the Titans game versus the Texans. He caught 5 passes for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Brown will be a big part of the Titans plan to be an undefeated team this season so it’s time you put him in your line up.
Louis: Josh Allen BUF QB
Next week the Bills travel to New York to play the worst team in the NFL, the Jets. Let’s be honest, the Jets are the joke of the NFL and have numerous problems that have yet to be fixed. From coaching to defense, to offensive weapons, Josh Allen should pick the Jets apart. This will be a complete blowout in a Bills win and Allen will be great.
Players to Bench:
Adam: Aaron Rodgers GB QB
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not have an ideal week this week when he ran into the red hot Buccaneers defense. Rodgers had 2 interceptions, a rushing touchdown, and no passing touchdowns. If his offensive weapons cannot get going soon, Rodgers will not be able to have another good performance any time soon.
Mac: Cooper Kupp LAR WR
The Rams struggled in a big Sunday night football game against cross-state rival the San Francisco 49ers. Kupp only caught 3 passes for 11 yards which gave him 4.1 points. Don’t expect big games from Kupp for the next two weeks as they play sound passing defenses like the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.
Louis: Raheem Mostert SF RB
Mostert got banged up in the Sunday night game against the Rams and didn’t play after the injury. Next week, the 49ers travel to New England, who have a good defense and Mostert will be recovering from a slight injury. Mostert is likely to not see the field as much as he normally does, and against the Patriots, Mostert will not perform for fantasy owners.
