Varsity tennis finds 6-2 win against the EGR Pioneers

EGR and FHC have had a rivalry in all sports for years. One of them is tennis. The boys tennis team faced a solid opponent that is a powerhouse year after year. Coach Dan Bolhouse has been coaching for years and knows his opponent’s history.

“EGR has an awesome tennis tradition dating back to the 40s and 50s,” Coach Bolhouse explained. “In my lifetime, I’ve witnessed some incredible matches between FHC and EGR, and it is a rivalry that I plan on continuing as long as I’m coaching at FHC.”

Most of the matches were nail biters, but FHC came out on top to secure their 6-2 win over the Pioneers.

The boys didn’t hold back even with high praise from FHC’s head coach. Starting in the singles matches, senior Sammy Yin took a win by only allowing one point in his match. Senior Chris Shang also continues to amaze the fans by only allowing his formidable opponent to score two points within the match. Sophomore William Wen battled hard in the first set but came away with a win of his own in the second.

Doubles matches were also successful on the day, with three pairs taking home a win.

FHC varsity tennis will play again on Saturday, September 10, at 8:00 a.m. at the Grosse Pointe North Classic.
