Boys JV basketball takes care of Northview 46-36

The boys JV basketball team took care of business once again on Tuesday, knocking off the Northview Wildcats 46-36. The Rangers lead by six with under two minutes to play and they were able to finish it off at the free-throw line. Sophomore J Coe led all scorers with 18 points, including two crucial free throws to close out the game.

With that being said, a slow start to the game by the Rangers’ starting lineup did not sit well with head coach Ike Tilden. He made substitutions very early on and the boys that came off the bench gave the Rangers a lift that calmed the flow of the game.

“We were pretty average as a whole,” Tilden said. “I was not pleased with our starting group’s effort, but we came out in the second and third quarters a lot better.”

Sophomore Quincy Henry finally got the Rangers rolling late in the first quarter.

“Quincy hit a big three that put us on the board after our rough start,” Tyler Hudkins said.

The Rangers are now 13-1 on the season and undefeated in conference play. This Friday, the boys will have a tough task at hand when they tip-off against the Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian. The first time these teams met, the Rangers outlasted the Eagles 38-34; it was a low-scoring and physical game. Coach Tilden is expecting nothing less of Grand Rapids Christian this Friday.

“We have a huge game against Christian on Friday,” coach Tilden expressed. “We will have a big two days of practice in order to prepare for them.”
