The Georgia Bulldogs: college football’s recruiting epicenter

After watching this college football season, I felt that I did not know enough about the younger players coming up. To solve this problem, I decided that I will cover some of the top recruiting classes in the country and the future stars of college football. With that being said, let’s take a look at the reigning National Champions’ incoming class and what to expect from the Georgia Bulldogs next season.

Georgia has one of the best D-lines in the 2022 class

Georgia is known for producing splendid defensive linemen like Jordan Davis and Azeez Ojulari. It is no surprise that Georgia landed one of the best defensive linemen recruits in the country, five-star Mykel Williams. Williams is extraordinary in block shedding, but what makes him special is his athleticism. He has the body frame of a d-lineman, yet the physique of an edge rusher. This makes Williams unlike any other player at his position. He also played receiver for his high school, which glorifies how much of an athlete he is.

Georgia also added a five-star edge rusher, Marvin Jones Jr. The stud out of American Heritage was highly recruited but the Dawgs prevailed. Like Williams, Jones Jr’s athleticism pops off the charts when watching him play. He is one of the best pass rushers in the class, which is why he is a five-star. Jones explodes off the ball incredibly, but he can improve his pass rush moves and his overall strength.

The last d-line prospect that I want to cover is Bear Alexander. He, unlike both of the other players I talked about, is a force that cannot be blocked. He reminds me of a young Jordan Davis because he has similar size at 6’3 and 325 pounds. Alexander might be big in size, but he always flies to the ball and never gives up on the play. I love the energy he brings and it can be contagious for a team as a whole. He sheds blocks extremely well, which is why I can see him playing early in his career for the Bulldogs.

The Dawgs keep coming in the secondary

After seeing Georgia’s secondary talent this year, it is evident that it brings in talented defensive backs every year; I would dare to say that Georgia has the best cornerbacks in the 2022 class. Starting with former Clemson commit and five-star, Daylen Everette is the most talented of the bunch.

His size is the first thing that pops out to me. He’s listed at 6’1, 185 pounds but plays like he’s 6’3. He likes to jam his receivers at the line of scrimmage, but when he gets beat, he rallies to the ball to make a play. He reminds me a lot of Trevon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys with his ball skills and ability to pick off quarterbacks.

Next is another five-star, Jaheim Singletary. Like Everette, Singletary was a former Buckeye commit but de-committed in early 2021. After watching Singletary’s film, his speed and athleticism shocked me. He played both sides of the ball in high school, reinforcing the fact that he is an elite athlete. He has a good vertical, which allows him to go up and get the ball. Singletary’s body control also allows him to make consistent, contested catches. He is the lowest-rated corner out of the three but the most versatile in my opinion.

Four-star Julian Humphrey is a unique prospect for me. He plays outside and slot corner for his high school and showed great awareness at the cornerback position. He would not bite for the many double-moves he saw and displayed excellent hitting ability. I think he could play corner or safety at Georgia, which increases his chances of seeing early time for the Bulldogs.

A few big-name players headline the 2022 class

There have been some big names when discussing the future of the Georgia football program, but there are a few left. In my opinion, Malaki Starks is the best recruit for Georgia in their 2022 class. He is listed as an athlete because he can play both sides of the ball, at receiver and corner. I believe he will play receiver in college and he may have a chance to start right away with the departure of Geroge Pickens and Jermaine Burton. Starks has great size and speed but the trait that impresses me the most is his physicality. He blocks well and should see the field right away because of it.

Another stud coming in is tight end Oscar Delp. The highly-recruited TE looks to continue the dominance of the TE position at Georgia. Brock Bowers had a breakout season and Darnell Washington is still in the position group as well. Delp may have to wait to play, but come junior year, I believe he will be one of the best tight ends in the country.

The last player I want to spotlight is Stenson Bennett’s potential successor, Gunner Stockton. Stockton is a hometown recruit out of Tiger, Georgia, and looks to make an impact in the 2022 QB battle. Georgia already has Stenson Bennett and former 5-star Brock Vandergriff, but Stockton has made it public that he does not fear competition. With his above-average athleticism and stellar throw power, I see Stockton competing for the 2023 starting QB job with Vandergriff in which he can win it.
